Zirconium Ring
Zirconium rings are recognised for the contrast between their dark oxidised surface and the natural grey metal beneath. Where sections of the ring are left in their natural finish, the lighter zirconium reflects light while the darker areas absorb it, so lines, grooves and bands stand out clearly when the ring moves. The result is a design that relies on contrast rather than decoration.
This collection includes widths from 7mm to 8.7mm with both brushed and polished details. Some rings use natural centre bands or parallel lines, while others place the lighter metal slightly off-centre to create a more unusual layout across the width of the ring. Court and flat profiles are both available depending on the style. These rings are held in stock in UK sizes P to Z+6, and engraving is carried out in-house for those who want to add a personal message inside the band.

Zirconium rings and two-tone finishes
Metal and finish
Zirconium begins as a natural grey metal. During production the outer surface is heated in a controlled environment, which forms a deep black oxide layer directly on the metal itself. Because the colour is created through oxidation rather than a coating, it does not peel or flake away. When areas of the ring are left in their natural grey state, the contrast between the two surfaces becomes a defining part of the design.
In many rings the darker oxidised surface forms the main body of the band while polished or brushed natural lines run through the centre or along the edges. These lighter sections reflect light more strongly than the darker background, so the pattern of the ring becomes clearer as the ring moves. More background information about the metal can be found in the Zirconium Buyer’s Guide.
Design details
The natural grey metal can sit in different positions across the width of the band, creating several distinct visual effects. Offset bands move the lighter zirconium slightly away from the centre, while centre bands divide the ring evenly across its width. Tramline styles use two parallel natural bands running around the ring, and grooved or ridged designs introduce additional depth that can be seen and felt when the ring is handled.
One of the most distinctive pieces is the Celestial Nebula ring. This design contains anodised aluminium set on black sand within jewellery-grade resin. As the ring rotates, the aluminium shifts through different colours, creating the impression of a distant nebula suspended within the darker background of the ring.
Ring profiles
Court and flat profiles each give the band a different character. Court rings have a curved exterior and a rounded interior that sits comfortably against the finger. Flat profile rings use a straighter outer surface with more defined edges, which gives the band a more structured appearance. A fuller explanation of ring shapes can be found in the Ring Profiles Guide.
Engraving
Zirconium rings can be engraved in-house. When engraving is placed on the black oxidised surface the result is black on black. The lettering is present but remains visually subtle, which some couples prefer for discreet personal messages such as initials or a wedding date. When engraving is placed on natural grey zirconium, the laser creates a darker mark that contrasts clearly with the lighter metal.
Sizing
These rings are available in UK sizes P to Z+6 from stock. Widths between 7mm and 8mm sit comfortably on most hands without covering too much of the finger, while the wider 8.7mm design creates a broader visual presence. Wider rings tend to fit more snugly, so a slightly larger size may be needed compared to a narrower band. More information on finding the right fit can be found in the Ring Width Guide.
Further technical information about the metal itself is available in the Zirconium Technical Guide.
